Our Story
Maine State House
Fighting for Justice in the States began in 2019 with a small group in the Boston area. We now number more than 150 members from 19 states.
Our mission is to support The States Project’s strategic focus on state legislative races to elect Democrats: states where power can be shifted by as little as a few hundred votes; states where our contributions can effect change.
We meet via ZOOM several times a year, depending on the information we need to share and discuss. We often have speakers whose expertise is relevant to our decision-making. In between ZOOMs we keep you up to date via email (no more than once a month, we promise).
We have raised close to $300,000 in the past 3 years. In 2024 we divided $130,000 between Pennsylvania (the House of Delegates remained Democratic by only ONE seat with a margin of only 454 votes!) and “where needed most” as determined by The States Project. In 2023, we raised $50,000 to support The States Project’s efforts in Virginia, flipping the House of Delegates.
When you contribute to Fighting for Justice in the States (FFJ) you become a member. Whether you give $10 or $10,000, you will have an equal voice in deciding where our contributions go. Together, we can make a real difference in the state(s) we choose.
Who we are
We are: scientists, advertising executives, writers, businesspeople, social workers, philanthropists, students, homemakers, teachers, designers, artists, website creators, realtors, musicians, lawyers, florists, investment advisors, doctors, board chairs and retirees…
We are Democrats, Independents, and former Republicans…
We are a diverse group who have found common ground in caring about our country. Alarmed over the direction many Republicans have chosen, we want to make our voices heard and our contributions count. We have come to realize that so many of the issues we care about—freedom of choice, voting rights, reducing gun violence, education, health care, LBGTQ rights, and so much more start with state policies.
